BMW X5 Max. Speed is limited or not ???????????

Read on Bimmer Buyers guide of 00-06 X5 that the regular version with rated H 255/55R 18" tires is limited on top speed to 128Mph. Only the version with Sport Package which has Sport suspension and V rated tires and 19" wheels is not limited, and has a top speed of 143Mph.
Can you experts here confirm this info?

Based on years of reading magazines such as Car & Driver and Road & Track, I can tell you that it is almost certainly limited. The only cars that seem to not have limits are the ones with Z-rated tires since the tires can handle more speed than the car is capable of.

pushed my old 2003 X5 4.4 with sport package/19" tires all the way to 130 (pathetic) wouldn;t go any further. pretty sure its electronically limited to 130.
heard that new 2006 4.4 with sport supposed to be limited at 150.

Imola how did your 4.8 handle at that speed?? I have been around 125 in my 4.6 and it felt like I was driving 60.

We've seen "130" in our old 3.0, but I suspect that
was more like 122/125, with the optomistic speedo...
it "sat down" and rolled like a 5K lb tank down the road.
(The rpms via the 5 spd manual were another matter.)

I've had my old Hurricane at 155 indicated, (prob. 140ish),
and the Vette at 160, (ran out of road and balls), and I am
surprised and impressed at the remarkable good feel and
"hunker downess" that the vehicles exhibit at these speeds.

Course these events were done on billiard smooth roads,
with no banking, but I am always impressed how good rides
are, at "considerable" speed.

You guys do realize that BMW speedometers read fast right??

Supposedly the 4.4i SP and 4.8is dont have the top speed limiter, but C/D tested a 4.8is that killed their fun at 128mph. Really confusing
