I had this warning before the first 600km.
My X5 has full air susp, front and rear. No bumps. I think the software running in the ECU is Windows 3.11. Dealer reset/reloaded it, no problems since, do same.

a part called 'air supply control unit'
regarding the source of 'selfleveling susp. inact' problem, mine had the same problem and just had it repaired by dealer. the problem is a part called 'air supply control unit' which controls the rear suspension failed. Dealer replaced the part and everything backs to normal. the ride becomes more comfortable than before. the part costs me around US$200. Before the dealer replaced the part, the warning light had displayed in the dash board from time to time, but not all the time. so do not think it is ok when the warning light goes out. once the warning light comes up, there must be some problem in it, so get it to dealer for inspection.

self level suspension Inactive
This is my first time having problem with my X 4.4
I saw this display 6 months ago once and now again. I took my X from the garage and went over the curb slowly and the display showed again. I turned off the engine and it went away. Is it that sensitive? Also, how often was it displaying before you fixed it. Please let me know. |

What I could find.
"so I got a call from the dealer about the small issues from the X5. They told me that there was some service bulletin for reprogramming the ECH, which would take care of the 'glitch' in the software in response to the self leveling sensor???? "

If your dropped, then it's time for the shop. What we're talking about is the computer spitting out false codes that we should ignore. A real failure ( a hole in one of the bags) is causing what you describe.
