SelfLevel SUSP.INACT warning appears...why?

My X5 doesn't have Variable Ride Height, so why would this message appear in the Check Control display?

 either you do and didn't know it or the computer in your X5 has been smokin' something!!!

If I had it, wouldn't I have the VRH button on the left side of the dash? My vehicle does not have this button, so I assume I don't have this feature.

nope.. thats why its self level, not manual ...

What kind of x5 do you own? I've seen 4.4s equipped with self leveling susp (only for the back wheels) that don't have the button...

If you have a 4.4 then the back is self lev

I have a 4.4i.

Also, when I press the Check Button, the warning doesn't appear? Could it be that it just inactivated that one time when I parked and is working again?

I'm confused because I also get "BMW Assist Inactive" every 5th or 6th time I start the car, and I know it's not active. It doesn't display EVERY time I start the car, and it doesn't display in the list of errors when I push the dash button. So, following the behavior of BMW Assist Inactive (appearing every so often when I know it's 100% inactive), is my Self Leveling 100% inactive and the computer is not telling me everytime I start the car, or was this just a one time fluke that occurred when I parked the car?

To make matters worse, the Check Side Lights also came on later in the day...my right blinker was flashing really fast in the dash, so I assumed I had a burnt out bulb. However, no bulbs were burnt out. I played with the blinkers and the hazards checking everything...no burnt out bulb. THEN, the "Check Side Lights" warning went away! WTF?

I too have had the “Self Level Susp” appear once (but only once). In my case, I believe I know what caused it. I was driving through a car park that had a particularly nasty speed hump – very short and stubby.

Do you often travel over bumpy roads madforce?

I got that message a couple of times in the past on my 4.4. If it does not last I would not worry.

Thanks for the insight. I, too, thought maybe it was something I ran over, but all I was doing was parking in a smooth parking lot. I did slowly run over a bad part of road about 20 seconds prior (bad part = several pot holes that had been repaired several times and looked like bad acne), but it was at a slow speed and I did my best to hit the "smoothest" part of it. I can only guess that this may have trigger the inactivation.

Like you, this was the was only time I've ever seen this message appear. Sounds like you solved it for me...thanks! Please send a bill to my secretary and I'll have her cut you check for your services.
