myself and everyone else on this board know how it feels to pull up to the pump and spend some pretty serious bread for gas.. we all feel your pain man and we all chose the X5 for some reason or another knowing how crazy gas is right now. I'm 20 and in school and lets just say that the monthly payments, ins., and gas have really amounted to the cost of a small apt. and i live in north jersey where things really aint cheap. i see the X as my way of investing money. with all that said, unless the cost is affecting your life that dramatically, just keep it...
BTW, i heard on CNBC that gas prices should be goin down drastically in the next few weeks. .20 @ the pump in some places. |

I had a similar dilemma awhile back because I had a Passat and a Tundra - 2 payments, 2 fill ups. It got ridiculous. So I sold both and bought a Touareg - MISTAKE. After VW bought it back I ended up in a pre-owned X5 and I love the car; it tows and is a great around town SAV. So for $300 bucks less in payments and at least $100 in gas per month I made the best choice.
But the X5 fill ups kill me and luckily I drive 12 miles round trip to work. You may take it in the shorts on selling it (but sell it privately-don't trade). Therefore you can look at the costs to run the X5 for let's say 3 or 5 more years plus any sales loss versus what you will be spending for an econo car for the same period (payments, ins, gas). At some point with an econo car you'll make a difference with lower expenses. But you need to look at that from a 3 or 5 year perspective to see what your potential savings are. If I didn't choose to tow a ski-boat I wouldn't be driving the X5 and have kept the Passat. One thing about VW's is that it takes them at least 2 years to get a model right (in the Touareg's case it still is crap). I know that the new Rabbit is an evolution of the Golf and some basis on the new Jetta so it may not be that bad. Good luck! |

Welp, I couldn't tell ya if it is inhibiting my lifestyle, I think the 2 house payments do that more, I'm just thinking of it from a different perspective than I usually do. We still do the things we want like travel, (Going to Denver in 3 weeks, Tahoe week after, just got back from San Diego), party, dine out etc etc..(Hey, theres not much else in OK).
Looked at some VW's today, I gotta tell ya, I don't think I can do this. I love my X5, everything else seems, a little below standard.

Every time I hear someone say VW unless it's one of those diesels i get nervous cause it's never good news. But i agree after the X everything else seems, a little below standard.

If U have to that question:
I think if you have to ask your self the question about your financial then you need to follow your heart. There is some doubt going on here which is causing the confusion. Confusion is a sign of choice or decision that we need to make but we fight against what is the right thing to do. That's why I say follow your heart.
Peace is what you need and I say keep your faith and call on GOD to pull you through and give you PEACE! See society wants to trade their vehicles in because of GAS prices are going up. But I say keep your vehicle and budget for gas. And have FAITH in yourself that you can afford it. I also say that if you live that far away, it maybe time to make a change and move closer to the house. Look at it like this: Mthly Pmt 630 * 12 yrly = 7,560 Gas Mthly Pmt 90 * 52 wks = 4,680 Insurance ? Repairs & Maint ? Can you afford that? Then your putting excessive miles on that babe.
