x5 driveshaft just "snapped"?? HELP!!! ps DO NO BUY A BMW read this...

thats right just got my 2001 (112K mi) x5 out of the shop... front cv's (or whole axles cause they can't just have cv fixed) and I was driving very easy 45 mph and BAM my driveshaft popped off the assembly and bent banging my oil pan ( i think thats what it is its leaking oil now) My question is... did the dealership mess up? should i protest and make them fix it? HELP

i just spent 1500 for cvs! and this peice of JUNK is fallin apart 2 broken door handles power window cluster... rear tail light housing... and all the wheather stripping is falling off, the power window button in the center console don't work, and there is zero power to my driver door, and thats what needs work now! plus mad body work like emlblems and such, i just did the brakes myself, replaced the pcv valve ($1200) water pump ($300) oil change (90!!!) and the dealership broke my wishbone and charged me 55 bucks! also i've had 2 window regulators broken, they want 800 to fix the window and 400 a peice for the doors, I can't grab my ankles anymore, i'm about to set up and protest with signs outside my bmw dealership. anyone wanna join me? have a feeling i wont be alone...

sounds more like you got a bad dealer and he's ripping you off...

if they just serviced the cv boots and that same drive shaft popped out, they are liable for the damages. same with your broken wishbone (if they damaged it)

Sorry to hear about your problems, but if the dealer was the last one to work on your CV boots and the same driveshaft is what broke, then there is something amiss there. Agree with Hayaku to take it back to the same dealer and explain the situation.

By the way, all E53 X5 have their power window switches on the driver side door, not the center console--however, it could be something simple as a fuse or the actual window switch panel not being connected properly.

your drive shaft broke or your c/v joint? the drive shaft flex disc can fail with violent results and that will have nothing to do with your c/v's. There are also defective parts in the world, and they will unfortunatly cause damage, bring it back and see what they say.

he said the drive shaft popped off the assembly. i'm thinking the last tech to do the work didn't seat the shaft into the front diff correctly, so it popped off and got spun around as the wheel was turning and it banged up everything it can reach...
