Changing battery

My six year old original BMW battery is dieing, so I need a new one. Is there any special advice in order to prevent some electric damage while installing a new unit? There´s alot of wires going to the positive pin of the battery, can I simply unplug those and put the new battery in?

Good morning "J", nothing to worry about. Just disconnect the cables and hook back up to the new battery. Don't forget the drain tube on the left side . I think the main reason that there appears to be so much going on with respect to all the wires on the positive terminal is due to the fact that your X5 will "automatically" disconnect the positive terminal in the case of an accident.
