Question New Air Filter

I am looking to get a new air filter. I am thinking about going with K&N, but then i started looking around at some different ones. What do you guys suggest or are using that you can recommend? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I run a standard drop in K&N, nothing really too beneficial from it IMO. Stick with stock, unless you're changing out the whole intake.

I would stick with the original or a K&N replacement element. When I had a e39 540i. I fitted a GruppM Carbon Fiber Induction system which is rated as one of the best, if not the best with a K&N filter which is standard with the GruppM.
To be honest, it only made the car sound a tab better and as for performance, well it didnt do anything that I noticed. I think the likes of an induction system needs to be pared up with the likes of, performance exhaust with no cats, possibly an ecu remap or some other engine mod.

I have the Dinan stage 1 engine software upgrade and the atuo transmission upgrade. On the Dinan site, it said that the K&N filter will add +4 hp adn +5 ft lb of torque. However, while searching around, I came across the AFE stage 1 cold air intake, which is a very simple install, it says it adds +25 hp. Is this worth the $225 price tag or should i just stay with K&N??

I wouldn't trust a single one of the advertised hp/tq gains, seeing as I have yet to see a post on this site in regards to a dyno proven X5. I would stick with OEM or a K&N drop in.

The hp gains on advertisements are just that , advertisements.

go with a KN replacement filter and keep you stock airbox . You'll save money in the long run ..

My GruppM system was over £500!! It was supposed to add big HP as well but as I said I never noticed a thing!! On many tuning site etc it is said that induction systems really only compliment vehicles with engine tuning. Just speaking from experience, I spent over £500 for a system that done nothing other than sound a tad better and look better, if you opened your bonnet. I wont be changing the system on my 4.6is as I learned a lesson.

get K&N drop in, keep your stock filter for when you clean the K&N and you need to drive while it air dries
