Thanks everyone for your safety concerns. After you cool down and think about it, thats why we have insurance and with nobody injured or dead is a blessing. My X will be back look'n sharp in no time.

Cheers,

Anyone have any other accident pics of the X5?

I wonder how well it does in a serious accident.

I think it would do great. The doors are heavy and I just have a sense of safety when I am in that thing.

Glad you are OK.

Yes, it is most important that nobody was hurt.

I also think it's lucky that you have a diesel and didn't have an exhaust because I know of one unlucky person who had his brand new special order colour X5 totalled after being rear-ended. The other car pushed his exhaust so far up and so hard that it cracked the engine and the insurance company totalled it. There was some other body damage caused by the impact. It was mostly buckling of a couple of panels but nothing that you'd think was major.

not quite... the exhausts on the diesel are actually there, right behind the bumper; the difference being that the tips face down; hence not seen.

bottom line is no one was hurt; BMW = 1, Toyota = 1.

How is your battery and spair tire? Did you get a dent from underneath since the other car went under?

don't seem to be any up to date figures on the current model X5. I'm sure since 2003 they will have fitted isofix in rear can't remember.

Here is what EuroNcap has got the current X5 think it will be good to see how the new model rates against the likes of the Q7 etc.

Please note if you do a search you will find motor cars to be more safe than the off road cars Obviously this is for Europe know idea how it works else where.

H'mm bit scary when you read that about the X5

Child Protection Vehicle-specific ISOFIX seats were used forward-facing for both children. In the frontal impact both dummy heads were protected. In the side impact test neither child was protected. The 18-month-old experienced high neck loads in the frontal impact, which is often the case for young children sat forward-facing. Warnings against using a rear-facing restraint opposite an airbag were inadequate.

I couldn't find that chinese SUV (Landwind?) from the results. However it received an impressive amount of zero stars. The steering wheel pierced the driver dummy when hitting the wall in 45 mph...

I've got white paint from the Toyota's hood under the right rear exhaust which is hanging slightly lower and left now. The bumper impact joint was pushed into and cracked the spare tyre box and 2 of the park sensors mounts were broken but I've managed to get them going (amazing that they still work) till the body shop booking. I'm hoping the wheels are still turning true because the left rear was pushed into the gutter and heavily scratched. I cannot detect any vibrations or noise when driving so fingers crossed.
