Assistance buying an '024.6is please

Hi everyone,

I've been browsing this site for some time now since I'm interested in buying a used 4.6is or 4.8is. I've found a local '02 4.6is with 52,500mi on it, but it's one of those things where I feel it may be too low of an asking price? The seller is asking $20,200 for it and states that it's never been in an accident etc. I have never seen it in person, nor met the seller but am wondering if this really does sound like it's too low?

Also, here are some pics off of the ad and does it look as if the seller has body matched all of the underside aero bits and is this a typical mod or something really personal?

Correction, he has lowered the asking price down to $16,200 as it is his second vehicle and states he is wanting to sell to get into a different car.

Beware. At that price (half value), something is VERY wrong. Did you run the VIN for flood damage, etc?

I haven't run the VIN yet, just due to the fact that it sounded too good to be true. At that price, he may as well just trade it in.

As I look at how the body panels have been painted, I wonder if it was an accident/repair job and never claimed - thus wouldn't show on a VIN check anyways?

Don't do it!!!! There is entirely too much paint on that X. I'm with you...it's probably been in a accident and not claimed or it could even be a flood car from down south...................Phil

I just looked up kbb values and there's no way this can be legit. Sorry guys, I should have looked up the info first before posting. I'm usually pretty good about that, but obviously the ad got the better of me and I jumped into high gear. Here's the original ad and I've already got an email into the guy asking for more details just to fish out the real story.

That X looks very similar to mine. I have all my trim pieces painted Imola Red also including the roof rails which he doesn't and it was never in any sort of accident. But, his price is way too low though so something is definately up with it. Go check it out and have it inspected, maybe the deal of a lifetime.........

I asked some pretty pointed questions to the seller and depending on his response, I'll either have it inspected or just tell him I'm not interested. This has red flags all over however so I'm not holding my breath Just for kicks, I'll update any response I get or if I take a look at it.

Definitely let us know if you see it and drive it. Maybe the guy is nutty or insanely rich.

I don't think that he's insanely rich. This statement that I received this morning says it all,
"Hi,
the car is still for sale, I tried to reach you but I was not able to get through. It has clear title, no accidents, runs perfect, you can pickup the car,or I can arrange shipping. let me know if interested because I want to get this done by weekend, I am selling so low, because this is my second car and I want to buy a viper,my dream car."

Thus, he is most likely some younger person who picked up a wrecked/totalled X5 and repaired it via cheap methods. Then spray it, detail it, and try to flip it. Otherwise, the trade-in value would be greater than $16,200 for his 'dream car' but I may be wrong.
