Valentine1 Question

Hey guys, I am thinking of getting a radar detector since in the last week, I've had 3 really close calls with cops for speeding. I'm afraid I'm gonna start tacking up points real quick if my lucky streak ends (as it undeniably will).

I know the V1 is the best detector according to every living person on the forum. The problem is that in my province of Ontario, detectors are illegal. So I have several questions:

1) Is there any way for the cops to find out I have one without actually looking in the car?
2) Must the V1 be placed on the windshield or can I hide it somewhere so that it won't be obvious I'm using an illegal detector?
3) What are V1's dimensions in inches (I know you can fit in the ash tray area)?
4) Is the setup easily removable if a cop pulls me over, and I try to quickly hide the V1?

1) Yes. The V1 does give off radio signals that will be detected by a detector detector

4) If you're quick enough, I suppose you could pull it off the windhshield and throw it under your seat. Of course if it's hardwired then there will be that wire hanging down from the headliner.

1) AFAIK, there are detector detectors in use in some places, but I don't know if Ontario is one of those places.

2) The V1 must be on the windshield. The sensors are located in the V1 box itself, and it needs to get hit by radar/laser to activate. It might work with a reflection off of some part of your car, but if the response isn't timely, what's the point of having the V1. Ah, good point about TommyXs install. I am wrong.

3) It is about 25% bigger than an iPod and about twice a thick (maybe 1.5X as thick).

4) Not likely, no, unless you have the StealthOne installed, and the cop doesn't see you moving to remove the detector from the windshield.

Yes it Ontario they have radar detector detectors! I know for sure 'cos they confiscated mine while driving through Ontario years ago! I told the cop I had no idea (and I really didn't,) but he argued that there are signs as you enter the province...so he took it away. And here's what gets me...I wasn't even speeding!!!

My two cents: When you are pulled over by an officer DO NOT do ANYTHING quickly - especially reaching under your seat to stuff something under it. You'll more likely find yourself at the business end of a service handgun that way. If you're going to use the V1, stuffit way up top and turn off your vehicle so it's not making any noise during the stop. And then hope. But don't make any furtive movements as the officer pulls you over.

I have it installed in the rear headrest and it works rather well...though for that you need the Stealth-1 to see the alerts on the OBDC. The headrest install takes less than 15 minutes including the S1 installation. drop me a line if you need help or want to see pics of the install.

You're right about the quick movements Zeke. After all, 2 years ago I was at my tennis club in front of the club house chatting with a friend.

Apparently, there was some lunatic breaking another player's tennis racket. So two police officers came, and just as they were coming, this lunatic emerged from the courts and was trying to convince me that the racket he broke was his, and not anothe player's. As I say, he was a lunatic to randomly talk to me.

So the cops thought I might be the person causing trouble, and they had me "slowly put down my racket". LOL after 5 minutes of convincing them I was a bystander, and after they nonetheless ran my name through the system, they were convinced I wasn't the troublemaker. LOL

Mickey, would you have pictures of your headrest install? I am highly interested!

OK, if police have detector detectors, then isn't there a "jammer" device for those that I could maybe buy?

There is no detector detector jammer. By nature that would be impossible. That would just be one more piece of equipment giving off waves for another piece of equipment to pick up on. Good idea though.
