6 hours?

First thing I would have done is swap in a new nav drive to see if that resolved the problem.

So, they sent me home and said they are running a Puma report (Internal BMW Tech thing that goes through New Jersey). CPO should cover it. I a situation with my CPO '03 M3, now out of regular warranty even though it only has 24K miles. The Nav was in Europe mode and I asked the dealer to flash it back to US mode. They couldn't get it to switch back so they ordered a new Nav. However, the BMW field engineer stopped by, hooked up his laptop and made the change. So they put the original Nav (MKIV by the way) back. Advisor had told me that the CPO would cover the new Nav.

are you sure you have an authentic 2007.1 nav DVD? i know some mkIV players have issues playing dvd+r . but i've never seen a mkIV player have issues with a dvd-r.
