Maintenance required...

Have quite a few sensors setting off the dash display.

2002 X5 3.0

Check brake linings.

Check brake lights.

DSC trouble light comes on a few times a month.

In rare cases one of the rear tail lights will be on when the car is off.

I have heard that BMW's are prone to having electrical issues. Could this be the start?

Now I think replacing the brake sensors along with some new front pads should take care of the brake lining light.

Has anyone experienced any of the other issues described?

Check brake linings- You need new brake pads.

Check brake lights- Common problem: sand the socket the bulb is in to renew proper contact.

DSC trouble light comes on a few times a month- somewhat common as well. Most likely a bad wheel speed sensor. Take to dealer to find out exactly which one / what the problem is.

Lights on could be the German required Parking light. When switched off if the turn signal switch is on in either direction the parking lights on that side will be switched on.
If this is not the case then it could be the LKM. Not a pleasent thought as I had to have one replaced.
Dealer needs to check the DASH codes for LKM fault codes. Not every dealer know this. (As I found out after a week of "troubleshooting" by my dealer.)
