Update. Purchased the car, and hopefully have it here by Xmas. How fitting. I'm pretty jazzed up; this is my first SUV (my wife has had a few) and the only one I'm excited about. Thought the Chili Pepper was disengaging and ponderious. I think these cars are quite a bit more nimble an engaging.
I was searching for reviews on the X5 4.8is, and I found this from the British press: "With such a huge, flat tread footprint off-road traction is poor, but that would be getting sensible and this is fundamentally a magnificently absurd car" "8iS customers will probably have a 911 or a Ferrari in the garage as well. The target demographic for this vehicle could loosely be described as the pornographically affluent. Its showy, its excessive, its quite unnecessary. I want one." LOL. Sounds like my kind of ride.
