Yeah this is all very confusing. I have a CPO certificate that is dated June of this year. Wonder if that is when the CPO starts even though I am still covered on the original factory warrenty. Hope not!!

I just got off the phone and they stated it very clear that MY CPO will be up in 1/15/09.

I get that you think it is a bad deal...but you are not in the situation I am in and this seems to be the best alternative. I have been quoted anywhere between $28,000-$33,100 for my car. The $33,100 was very off base from most of my recent quotes and the $31,000 seems like the most fair offer for my current situation. I REALLY like the way the 2003 X5 4.4 with sport looks, so I guess I am paying a premium to get it with extended CPO and maintenance. All in all, I think it isn't that bad...but what do I know?

I've reread the BMWNA site tab that "details" CPO; it will make your
teeth hurt to read it...their verbage suggests that CPO, if cert'd by
Stlr, starts the day that it is certified and/or from the day that the orig
warr expired. On the car you are considering, the mileage expired "some
time" previous to now, (and well before the time allotment).

Thus, that inservice date may be when a Stlr took it in, did the CPO
"check" and certified it for resale. I would get in writing that your CPO
coverage goes "2 years or the balance of 100K" at time of your purchase,
whichever comes first, before I bought it.

58K miles on an '03 isn't huge, but it's more than the average bear
drives. I'd also ask Stlr for full print out, on service history.

I knew you didn't mean real curb jumping, .

Cars are a freakin disease, so if you can justify the dough on
the lease toss, do what you choose...I'd still rec'd looking around
a little harder for "the X"; there are Stlr parking lots full of them
out there. Don't fall in love with a specific used car, imo.

That makes more sense...it seems the Stlr is assuming you are
"in" that car by mid Jan, so the 2 year countdown begins when
you, or another buyer, take posession, not from when the car
was orig. "cpo'd" by a stlr.

That's what I thought it would be; the CPO cert date should
have no bearing on a car that sits, "ownerless" and is then purchased.

And, hey: if that car fits your needs and you want it, go get it!

Actually, they said the car is CPO'd from the Original retail date of 1/15/03, so it will be in the CPO for whatever is first...72 months or 100,000 miles. 72 months is 1/15/09.

Thanks for all of your help and advice...I will let you know the final outcome.
