Replace Final Stage Resistor?

Argh...went out to start my X5 last night and AGAIN..."click, click, click..."

Dead Battery.

I have some of the symptoms many of you have discussed on this forum, but not all. I still have control over my HVAC system when the vehicle is on and running; however, my HVAC system is NOT shutting off when my X5 is off and locked. The lower vent fan runs for a period of time and then shuts off and the runs and shuts off...you get the idea.

Has anyone else ran into my situation? Or do all bad FSR cause you to lose control over your HVAC system as well?
]
I am sick and tired of jump starting my X5 daily, and the hell if I'm taking to a BMW Dealership this soon...especially if I can narrow it down myself. All of the fuses look solid, and I know the HVAC system not shutting down is the cause of my battery drain.

Any help appreciated.

Do you not have warranty coverage. If so it should be a dealer replacement part.

Just had mine done at the dealer last week. I had the same conditions you describe. The service guy new what it was right when I said the fan was running. Dealer covered it under my warranty.

No warranty coverage...I recently purchased this '01 4.4i from a local car lot. I'm guessing the part hasn't been "recalled" per se, so we have to front the money for the replacement part.

Looks like I'll be doing this myself...LOL.

So Bill Valley...you did NOT have any issues with your HVAC system while your X was running? Just after you shut it off...? If so, I'm put money that's what mine is as well then...the issue is throwing me off because I'm not have any symptoms while my X is running.

No recall. It's easy enough to do by all accounts. I just bought a FSR on eBay because it is starting to go on our X.
There is and article with step by step instructions/pics on the "Home" page. 45 minutes total.

Just get the part and do it yourself, no biggie, I paid lesss than $100, I think it was like $70 or $80. The hardest part is taking the glove compartment off, but really no big deal, the rest is easy.
