Disarm by remote control only Question
My car's at the stealer getting programmed so that only the remote control will disarm the alarm. Currently, my key (or a bump key) can disarm the alarm by turning the lock.
He states that should my battery die, I won't be able to get into my car. That I will need to have it towed over to the stealership. Is this true? I thought I was disabling the functionality of the alarm. The key should still work to open the door....right? And I can put a new battery in right? |

I don't think you will be able to open with "turn the key left to right thing" after you do this. Better check...

This makes no sense...I had my alarm changed to not disarm with the key, and the dealer gave me no such warning.
The key locking mechanism is purely mechanical, so changing the programming to have the key in lock not arm/disarm the alarm should have no effect on the mechanical operation of locking or unlocking the X with the key in the door. Further, if the battery is dead, there would be no power to the lock mechanism even if you had not changed the alarm programming. |

Did he maybe mean if the battery in your fob dies you wouldn't be able to run it?
If the key doesn't disarm the alarm, you can open the door manually but that would, in turn, set the alarm off if you didn't disable it with the fob. Right? |

Thanks for confirming my hopes. Now if the main car battery dies, I don't see why I wouldn't be able to get in the car. The service advisor is new....he didn't even know about the remote disarm only option and I had to show it to him for like 3 minutes with a demo and then explain it on the phone again to him. I'm picking up my car today....it had a couple recalls....thanks for all your help! |
