Dinan Tranny S/W for a 2005 Model

Am I missing something? $299.00 for 0.01 sec... Just donate this money to childrens in Africa.

I support donating to the children; however, this 0.01 sec. is the difference under full throttle. The daily driving experience when not at full throttle is what is improved. Quicker shifts; better shift points to keep you in a more favorable power band, etc...

I'm interested in the s/w for the improved drivability.

I don't know yet. Now, I feel like I really have to mash the accelerator to unleash the beast - at least 70% throttle - and get it to kick down a few gears to get up and go. Dinan said that my gearing would feel more appropriate and when I requested power with 50% throttle. It will begin to get up and go, rather than remaining in a tall gear and bogging down.

I'll surely post the results once I get it programmed.

The point is those of us with 6 speed trannys are having a lot of low end shifting problems and we are looking for help. I don't think true performance change is the idea right now. And by the way the software is not available yet.

I just talked to Dinan quite extensively about their software for the 2004+ model years of our E53 X5's.

The hang-up with post-2003 X5 software products from Dinan was that BMW switched to a valvetronic engine. For the past three years Dinan has been working through each of the BMW models building new code for valvetronic engines and transmissions (engine software must be developed prior to tranny software). They have completed many of the new cars (545, 645, 550) and are now finishing the 650i's software code set.

Next up: E53 X5! They estimate that within 3 to 6 months they should have the engine and transmission software complete. I informed them of my X5 trying to hold 4th gear (unless I really mash the gas pedal) as I slow down to 20MPH to round a turn. They said the improved throttle response (engine software) and slightly more aggressive shift points (transmission software) should help.

I put my name on their list of buyers once these get developed. I expect a call by mid-summer. Maybe if we all call to get our names on the list it may prompt them to complete this effort faster due to demand. They have a 4.4i in their lot just waiting to be used for development...

UPDATE:

Per Dinan: The engine software will be done sometime in May and you should be able to get a download from your local Dinan dealer beginning June 1st. They send out new code to their dealers only once per month.

Tranny Software: No completion date set yet but they said it will follow the engine software.

Thanks. I called them today as well to let them know that there is a demand for the tranny software.

I drove around manual mode today....what a difference.

why not just go into manual mode when you need "get up and go"? thats what i do. i have the dinan engine software in my 540/6 and it definitely helps with the throttle response. however i do agree its overpriced (as with most things dinan). i got it at 50% discount last summer.

Now that you've opened the door... How did you get the software 50% off?

Manual mode has a very strong downshift resulting in major engine braking. I end up honking the horn with my forehead when I slow down at a stop sign.
