under the mirror is a little slide. move it right or left with a small flat blade screwdriver (i forgot which way to unlock it). after that, the mirror just pulls out and you disconnect the wires for the heat element.

install is reversal of that.

use something like a crowbar. place it on the bottom of the glass, between the bottom of the mirror edge and the housing. protect the glass and housing with a cloth. pry upwards. the mirror slides up, not out toward you. you'll feel it release, then just unplug the heating and dimming elements.

Replacement of outside mirror procedure

The mirror glass hangs on four clips and must move upward to be released. If you are replacing the glass, look at the back side of the new part to understand better what you are trying to do. First adjust the mirror glass upward to point toward the sky, then insert a large flat screwdriver working across the bottom edge of mirror and gently prying up on the handle to release the clips. You must then adjust the mirror downward to slip it forward out of the slots. Unplug connecting wires. To install, plug in wires then with power mirror base facing downward align the clips on the back of glass to the slots on power mirror base, you will need to power the mirror to the sky upward position then gently pry down on the glass to lock in the tabs using the flat blade screwdriver again. Gently pry down on the handle until the clips lock. DONE!

I've had a look unserneath for the mysterious slider but never found it.

I am replacing my left side mirror soon and have part on way via ebay hopefully- make sure you have the correct part as there are chromatic and non chromatic ones and ones with and without blindpost as well as shaped glass too. Someone has commented elsewhere that for the Range Rover L322 there are 12 different mirror part numbers listed depending on LH, RH, LHD, RHD, flat, convex, etc.

Anyway these links may help

First is from this site http://www.xoutpost.com/submit-articl...=change+mirror

Also see this link to Range Rover net - I believe early 2002 L322 Range Rovers have same mirrors as the E53 X5 2000-04 . The only official reference I have seen online for changing one is in the attachment to the link below in the 2nd post. Click below and scroll.

Thx guys for sharing info

I have just changed my exterior wing mirrors following the instructions. I manage to crack one of the mirror coz i had the mirror setup the wrong way. I mis-read info and had the bottom of my mirror out and top of mirror inside mirror housing (ie looking into the sky when u r in the driver seat).

Anyway, it s all done now. But Im not 100% sure that i put it in correctly thou. The mirror seems to be clicking a bit. I hope i didnt do any damage when i was yanking the hell out of it.

YouTube - X5 E53 exterior mirror click, is it normal?

Any feed back appreciated.
