I doubt it will make you feel any better, but my 4.8is burned a TON in it's first 10k (probably 4 or 5 quarts), but the second 20k, I haven't burned 2 quarts the entire time.
I'm with you about this oil burning nonsense, though. I've owned lots of german cars and they all do it. However, I've also owned lots of performance japanese cars and none of them burned any oil. So, in reality, a motor doesn't *HAVE* to burn oil, like BMW/Audi/Porsche/others would like you to think. (Unless it's a rotary, and that's just an entirely different beast). Who knows? I like German cars better for daily drivers enough to stop caring about the oil burning issue. But it is a load of crap the dealers give you.
