has anyone found out what type of bulb is used in the side view mirror lights? according to realoem, it's the same bulb used for the front interior reading light. Just want to verify that it is the same bulb. Thanks.

There are lights under the mirrors of E53s? When did this get installed?

yeah.....it might be from 04 on...similar to the lights you have on the e70 door handles, but it's not LED, which is what I want to change it to. found some LEDs on ebay, just not sure of the type of bulb.

So how do i get to the bulbs because I have some LED ones that i wanna put in there and my license plate lights? Will I need a load resistor for both, or just the license plate lights?

there's another posts titled "blown mirror light", or something like that, that has instructions on how to remove the casing around the mirror. I tried the other day, but I don't think I gave it enough elbow grease. I wanted to see if anyone here has tried it successfully before I give it a go again. Just don't want to break the catches, as the outer case isn't cheap to replace. Don't know anything about whether you need resistors for those lights.

I have an '01 and when I look under the mirror, there is a place for the light. There is not a bulb there, but it is enclosed...the person who had it before me did not get it as an option on their car. If I buy the bulb, will I be able to install it? Or since it wasn't an option on my car will it not work properly...?

i think i know the spot you're talking about. the place near the joint with the cap...

in the newer X5s, they are near the end of the mirror...not in the cap place
