ok i'll try that; also, i'm surprised that my GAIN and EQ settings are so high ... they're both juuuuust past the 12 o'clock position

UPDATE: so it DEFINITELY seems to be VERY music-dependent. I've experimented with more music (some persian dance music; some "best of Delerium" music; some flamenco; some trance; and more hip hop) and it's definitely the case that SOME of the music produces WONDERFUL explosive bass ....... other music ... just nothing, even though i KNOW it's supposed to be there.

And another thing: in order to actually get a good amount of bass, i have to crank the volume up so high that the mids and highs start to make my ears bleed. i've tried compensating by turning the treble WAY down on the head unit .... but .... i dunno just seems like a LOT of messing with audio settings just to get a certain song to sound right.

there's GOT to be a sweet spot for these systems?!

anyone??

Gain at 12 or right around there is pretty standard judging on the music. there is a hole in your sound spectrum (your high pass xover and low pass xover do not overlap hence the weak performance at certian frequencies) aftermarket/factory hybrid systems do take a lot of tweaking to get really consistant sound just keep tweaking and as long as you are having issues keep posting and everyone here can help

is the cranked volume to get good bass a constant problem or does it vary from song to song?

I know what you mean.

I got a Basslink II. It has 250watts RMS.

It is 'ok' but by no means that deep pounding bass that you can hear from across the street.
