Question BSW xh108 subwoofer amp settings?

Hey there-

So I did the Stage I upgrade with the MB Quarts a while back, and I just now finished installing the xh108 subwoover that goes inside the factory location.

But ... to be honest, i'm not very impressed with the sound yet.

What amplifier and head unit settings are people using?

Does the speaker need time to break in?

Thanks!

P.S. I do *NOT* have DSP.

What part of the sound needs some fine tuning? Are you not getting what you expected from the sub or is it more than that?

I'm putting mine (Stage 1, Stage 2, and DICE) in this weekend as well...I'll let you know what I come up with too.

I can't say that I'm thrilled that with Nav and a CD Changer, you have to mount the amp *outside* in the open.

yeah i had to mount it outside too ... it's not so bad, honestly, even if i would have preferred it inside. doesn't take up much space at all, and at least it looks kinda cool

also: is the CROSSOVER FREQUENCY the frequency ABOVE which no soudn will go to the bass? E.g., if it's set to 100 Hz, then it means the sub will get everything BELOW 100, right?

I think the best setting for crossover should be around 80

Correct, setting the crossover frequency at 100Hz means that you're letting everything below 100Hz pass, but only if you tapped into the "right" lines (the woofer speaker). If you mistakenly tapped into the "mid" or "high" speakers, then it may explain your lack of bass since those have high-pass crossover out of the OEM amp. Also, play with your gain adjustment on the sub's amp as well as the "bass-boost".

so i've made a lot of progress, but in weird way: with certain songs, the bass is BOOOOOOOMINGLY nice ..... really powerful stuff. with other songs .... there just ... isn't any!!!! For example, anyone heard Diddy's new song DIDDY ROCK on his new album PRESS PLAY? I've heard that on certain systems and the bass note is ASTONISHING. But ... in the car ... virtually nothing. Skip ahead on my CD to some other tracks and it's great though!! And I don't understand how it could be the quality of hte recording: it sounds great on my home system, including my computer desktop setup consisting of Klpsch THX 2.1 speakers.
