are you talking about the one with the roof controls and the reading lights?

if so, you can search for it. the simple instruction is pry out the light components and take it from there...

I removed the reading lights and unscrewed the two black philips head screws. I know with the sunglass holder version there are two more screws but how about the motion sensor one? HOw do I access the rest of the screws inorder to remove the whole head console?

Got it. No need to remove the whole console. Remove reading lights and garage door opener. (I was trying to hardwire my radar detector. Appeared to be a very simple job)

Fat green wire that powers the garage door opener.

ohhh...so the radar detector has an adapter for it, or is there some splicing involved?

I used a interlocking fastener to tap into the green(power) wire and one of the black philips head screws for ground. Works like a charm.

Radar Install

Hi Guys,
I am looking for a power wire to hardwire my radar, and was directed to your thread.
Unfortunately I dont have the garage door opener option in my 2002 x5. Also: The radar I have (whistler 5000k for those playing at home) gets mounted in the bumper with only the 'brain' section having to be in the cabin.
In the past I have mounted the brain in the footwell under the steering wheel, so the wire doesnt necessarily have to be in the roof console, as line-of-sight is not necessary.
I just need an ignition wire that wont cause any fault codes to appear.
Your assistance would be appreciated
Thank you,
Mark
