Battery/Electrical Issues????

I just bought a 00 x5 4.4 and just took it in to have the windows tinted.

The shop had the doors open for about 4 hours and they said they hooked it up to a battery charger to maintain the battery so it didn't go dead.

When I left the shop -- my tach and fuel gauge were not working and the diagnostic/odometer area is not illuminated anymore. Also the navigation reset to spanish and no matter how I change the settings it won't go back to english.

I searched around the forum but I couldn't find anything addressing these issues.

It runs fine -- just a strange electrical problem. I'm surprising my wife with the car later in the week. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

:xoutpost:

if the courtesy lights were on, they automatically shut off just to avoid a situation like this...so it may be something else the installers did...

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

I unhooked the battery for 10 minutes and all is good!!!!

The battery is nearly 7 years old if its the original... so maybe its time for replacement. I'll read up on other posts about batteries.

The battery starts fine -- but the eye shows black not green. The car has been in storage for the last 3 months... so maybe it just needs to be charged up.

Thanks for the help!

I agree, that battery is due for replacement Joe! Here's a couple of links with helpful info for battery replacement and fault code diagnostics:

and:

The battery replacement is very easy and AutoZone has very good replacement batteries at excellent prices! Good luck and let us know how things go - we hope your Wife is happy with her new machine!
