I wonder if I had kept on driving, if it would have caught me on fire, then the X? Scary.
Can you tell us what month/yr your 05 was produced?

It could have happened while the X5 was in the garage when the house went up in flames.

My '05 was produced in August of 2004. Got it back today, with a new lower seat cushion, new heat element, & new leather cover. Good as new.

Strangely enough, that was exactly what I thought when I saw that X.

Correct, we've still got style 57 or 137 standard on the facelifted 3.0s.

In Australia we dont have a winter setup, they are the wheels that come with the 3.0L from 2001-2006 they never changed.

Poor thing could have been a victim of arson, insurance, or itself

Reminds me of a blue E46 325 convertible arson victim that sits atop a shipping container at the entrance of my local scrap yard with "free car removal" spray painted on the side

Heat affects metals in different ways, and I wouldn't trust the alloys from either car!, once aluminum exceeds 500*C for any period of time it gradually becomes soft and may be liable to fail if used again!
