Hello im a new member, and my 2005 X5 displays a message saying to check my brake lights. I found that the left side light was not functioning. Im currently out of town and about 150 miles from any BMW dealer. Is is possible to take the X5 to any shop and just have them replace the light?

If it's just the bulb then you can pick one up at any auto parts joint and replace it yourself. Should only take a few minutes.

Kucak's right. You're lucky if it's just the bulb which can be replaced anywhere, including yourself if you are handy. The X5 is known to have problems with the socket, especially the left one. May need to be replaced if under warranty, or repaired if not. Good luck
