What happens when...

You go to upgrade your MkIII version 17.1 to version 24.1, and you put your CD ROM in the NAV and it just keeps making noises every 30 secs and the screen flickers and you wait an hour and still nothin?

I'm assuming the CD that's in the drive at the moment is the V24.1 disk that you burned. Did anything ever come on the screen when you inserted it? Are you able to eject the CD?

It sounds like the drive isn't recognizing the disk you created.

I was standing behind the vehicle when I inserted the CD, there was a message about "CD ROM in" but before I could get to the front to read it, the screen went blank and began to flicker, which led me to beleive it was doin' its thang. However, I seriously waited an hour after following your instructions carefully about the installation and tried to eject the disc and it won't come out. I sounds like it is trying to "seat" the disc every 30 secs or so, the orange arrow on the eject button goes off around the time I hear the noise, then comes back on, but the red power light is not on.

What did you use to create the disk? I've done dozens of nav updates, but I've never made a disk using anything other than CloneCD, so that is the only reference point I have.

I used MagicISO, v4.7. I have a Sony VAIO, tried to make the CD with the standard writer but the CD was immediately ejected once I put it into the Nav. The CD player and radio still work as it is now, just a blank screen which continues to flicker. Know of any way to reset the Nav system so it'll spit out that CD?

Your best resource for this type of condition is the experts on the bmwnav group on Yahoo! - http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/bmwnav/

There are multiple past posts on that forum where they've address this. Good Luck!!

My system is also a MkIII that i was upgrading from 17.1. The exact same thing happened to me with v24.1. I used Nero to create the disk. I then downloaded CloneCD and made a copy of v23 at 1x write speed and a copy of the Key CD. The second try did the job. I now have the split screen v23 and all seems to work properly.

Thanks for that heads up, Dennis. Why did you install v23 instead of v24.1?

I still face the problem with getting the CD out of the Nav, it still won't eject. On top of that, the radio/CD player will turn off after being on for about 2-3mins now. Today it turned off right in the middle of a traffic report, I missed the info and it took me twice as long to get to work!

Anyone ever taken apart a MkIII Nav before?
