I Dont know how to tell, but I baked mine and the glue softens up easily. Black and stringy when pulling the lens off. With the newer lens and the new glue the lens wont budge at all.

TIP: Open both headlights before doing any mods. Since you got these off Ebay you could have one from 2002 and one from 2003. Maybe its just me but I dont want one modded headlight and one stock.

Then I think it must be 2003 or later, since it is brand new, never been used. What do you guys think if I install full amber corner headlights together with clear corner rear lights and clear color side markers? Will someone think I am such a stupid guy to mix them up and the outcome is extremely ugly?

you can tell what was the production date by looking on the top of the headlights. there is a clock with the year in the center and arrows pointed to a month. after 8/02, that's when the glue was changed

Are they OEM lights or knockoffs? Either way why not trying to bake them or use a heat-gun and open them up. It only takes 15 min and it sounds like they arnt in your X5 yet.

I see a lot of 3 series with cleared out fronts but amber sides and rears. Sounds like you might do the reverse! lol BMW fans would notice, and maybe other car guys. But most people wont be the wiser.

Or just drive fast so they can only see your tail pipes.

Yes, they are oem xenon headlights with full amber corner. I still have not installed them onto my 2001 made x5 4.4i. I do not want to bake them since I do not have big enough oven. I may try heat gun, but I do not know if the heat gun is expensive and what it looks like. Can anyone show me a pic of the heat gun? Actually, I am really not willing to open the headlights by using heat gun or baking, I am really afraid of damaging the headlight.

Hair dryer won't get it hot enough. Even if it did, by the time you got one spot hot enough and moved on to the next area, your original spot would have already cooled off.

I'm assuming the you have the ballasts for the xenons also. I think that you need that to install xenons.
I have the xenons with the yellow corners but I've seen pics of the ones when they take off the yellow ambers and clear baffles but I am not feeling the bare naked aluminum look on the lights, each his own.
