I used a model plane covering stretching gun, cost me about £15 from any model shop, gets the lamp really hot and it split without any problems. A lot hotter than a hairdrier

You mean even if I brought it to a BMW dealership and ask them to open it with the right equipment and it would still be impossible to do?? A heat gun would still not do the job? I'm in Thailand so it's not so convenient to order on ebay. Thanks.

Do u know where exactly on the headlights I can look to see what date mine was made on?

it's a clock on the top near the center of the lamp. arrow points to month, center number refers to year

BMW will not open headlights for you

great Thanks. I'll check it out. I already talked to the dealer here and they are willing to do it. We're good friends plus labor in Thailand is only $15 an hour so it's quite inexpensive to do things here. We do have good workmanship here as well.

I do suggest you not to open the headlight made later than 08/2002. It will make your headlight leaking and not repairable. Especially in Thailand, it always rain hard there, it will not be handsome anymore when you are driving BMW X5 with crying eyes.
