See I have done the felt thing. I also put felt on the latch part. But alas with temp change, and how the felt gets crushed, the rattle comes back.

Basically you just need to get a 12mil torq wrench. (Please dont quote me on the specific details as I have not bought the wrench yet) The wrench needs to end in a sort of star shape, so this is why you cant do this with just a phillips head.

You can then adjust the stoppers on the body of the vehicle to close up any gaps between the liftgate and bumpers. I dont have a link right now, but if you do a quick search for "liftgate rattle" you will see a lot of ideas how to fix this. I even used rolled up newspaper once.

Perhaps this weekend I can try this with pictures and post a thread.

You must be talking about a T-12 Torx screwdriver.

Got to try this - the rattle has gotten bad lately.

BMW has an updated bumper for the two areas on the body
now. I don't know the part because I still don't have my car back yet.
Check with Morrison.

Quick write up about it. Basically play around with the stoppers until the noise goes away.

You can get that at any auto parts store or hardware store - just tell them you need a Torx T-12 scredriver or you can get a bit for an interchangeable screwdriver.

Check these out at Home Depot:
http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS...4+3865&pos=n20

Go to the top of the page and search the word TORX and see what comes up.

Hold on a second...
Full on brake job front and rear with rotors/pads/sensors and labor. Add in a little side marker socket and you got out for $1000? All at a dealer? Not too shabby, IMHO. Dealers around here are asking about $1400 for both axles.
