Stereo Upgrade

I have a 2000 X5 4.4

I am looking to do a pioneer AVIC D3 Head unit or Pioneer Z1 Unit.

Which would you choose?

I am going to try to keep my stock speakers but I will have RCA's attached to the Head unit for an amp later on down the road.

I am going to have a sub and a sub amp installed and maybe do some sort of Back up camera.

My biggest concern is that I want to be able to play DVD video on the screen while driving. If you have either one of these units did you have problems getting video to work?

Any comments are appreciated. Thanks Greg

i think i am going with d1 because of price point, you can get one for less than 700 and it has all the features i desire. You can buy something to unlock the dvd video while driving (I am not sure how this works with the parking brake), though that is definately not very safe.

I think you might have to do something with the amp for the rear speakers too if you are using any aftermarket head unit. I'm not sure if the harness allows you to run audio through the amp or if you need to run new wiring directly to the rear speakers. This is not a big deal if you are mounting an amp in the rear for a sub or if you are amping you speakers (which is the best sound).

also the bluetooth, sat radio and backup modules are pretty cheap. I want to get the adapter that lets you keep your steering wheel controls as well. The only thing you will lose in vehicle information screens.
