Misleading Cluster Reading

This is somewhat the same as blackbeauty but not quite.

I was driving to work this morning and I suddenly saw the yellow OIL icon on the cluster. But I remember that when I started the X5 this morninb before leaving the garage I saw 3 Green Bars still.

I was wondering 2 things:

1. How many miles can I drive the X5 without the engine blowing
Home to Work miles roundtrip almost 70 miles one day...so can this wait
til Saturday?

2. Why spend the money to top off the oil myself as some of you have
suggested to blackbeauty when we have the maintenance warranty
and some of us paid extra for that when some of ours have
expired...shouldn't we use it?

Please advice!

you can't use the oil service under the maintenance program whenever you want. when that indicator light comes on, you have about a quarter of your oil left, but check the dipstick to be sure.

if i were you, just go buy a quart to be safe...they only go for about $5

Yellow oil "Icon" - Add oil as soon as possible. I keep some good quality synth. oil aroud to top off the oil as needed. I don't seem to use as much as some report on the board.

Most likely just a slow "power on self test."

Like I said... some do some don't. I have only done it once. Some do it every week. Driving style etc has a lot to do with it.
