I need HELP! I can't get the main bolt to budge on the balancer pulley!!

I gave up for tonight. Everything went smooth during the removal of my water pump. But when I tried to snake it out, it gets stuck behind the EGR pipe. The only way to remove it is to drop it down and the pulley is in the way. I unbolted the smaller bolts around the large center bolt. But now the bolts won't move I have a monkey wrench(plumbers wrench) on the shaft and that's pinned against the block and a large breaker bar on the bolt. The thing just won't move!! I've been trying the last 2 hours. I've run out of ideas. I'm just afraid something is going to break. The only other option is to remove the EGR pipes but those seem to run into tight spots and I can't even see the bolts. Please help as I need to have it back together for Monday.

Nevermind, I guess a break helps. I checked the TIS CD I have and it showed to remove the small bolts and remove the pulley. SO i went back out and just tapped on the Pulley with a rubber mallet and the damn thing just fell off!!!! What an ass I am sometimes. Anyway incase anyone searches for this the answer "No the center bolt does not come off". Also a side note remove the T-stat before trying to remove the pump. It won't sneek out with it still attached. Ok, Now it's time to put it back together, Yeah!!!

Leak. Pump can go bad internally for various reasons. Pulley bearing.

This is of tremendous help as I am about to change my water pump and other items - valley pan gasket, spark plugs.....wish me luck!

THANKS!

I removed the EGR tubes from the head. they pull right out after removing a bolt.

I thought I wrote earlier that I didn't remember removing a center bolt on the crank? LOL.

yes the vibration damper pulley comes off with a few good hits with a mallet.
Do not use a harmonic balance pulley like I did. I cracked the damper hub and then had to unscrew the crankshaft nut.. what a disaster

You know I did read that, and I still talked myself into thinking that it had to come off. I guess lack of sleep paid it's toll.
