I can help you with bubbles on the eng. block question, the plastic coolant reservoir on these cars crack after a couple of years and when the hot coolant spills over the paint of the engine block it creates those bubbles, how do I know that? I have the same exact car in the pic. No biggie, the reservoir is not too expensive and it's easy to change.

Yup, I have been there too. Had to get this replaced to at 55k and other cooling components (plastic t-shape hoses connectors) around 70k. It looks to me that the cooling system components in the early X's (3 first years) were having a hard time coping with the high pressure of the cooling system.
