Battery Size Question

Does anyone know why the battery from the 4.4 is larger than the battery from the 3.0? Is it possible to installed a battery sized for the 4.4 in a 3.0? I'm asking because Interstate Batteries sells a battery for the 3.0i (P/N MTP-H7) for $161.95 and they offer a battery for the 4.4 (P/N MTP-93) which has a better CCA rating and is priced at $116.95. Both batteries have a Pro-Rata Warranty of 85 Months. Any help would be greatly appreciated as my current battery is pretty much done and I need to get a battery ASAP.

Futhermore, slightly jacking Girard's Thread,
what the hell is the actual Group #/Batt # for
the X5, esp the 3.0...I'm thinking Group 92 but
no clue and pages of reading here haven't really
answered my question. I need to replace my nearly
6 yr old batt., soon!

My local hillbilly Autozone has zero clue and neither
does the Batteries Plus store in Asheville. I gotta
find some civilization, lol!
Thanks, mD

94R is the group size for the 3.0. 49 is the group size for the 4.4.

see this thread for battery replacement info.

Yes, a 4.4 battery will fit in a 3.0. You just use a different mounting hole for the bracket.
Don't know why the 4.4 uses a bigger battery. Perhaps the V8 takes more juice to turn over when its cold.

Thanks, Men...
Now, I just have to find one here in western NC.

The BatteriesPlus store guy, over in Asheville had me
looking at batts that weren't even close; he likes to
sell them by "casing measurements". We need a medium
tech injection here in this area, lol!

I drove to Spartanburg,SC yesterday, jes' to get new
tires on my Vette. Discount Tire had a very good price
and no one in these border counties could spell TPM
or good high speed balancing. Whew...
Thanks again; now I just have to find one.

Cool. Just picked up the MTP-93 which was meant for the 4.4 and installed it in my 3.0. Fits perfectly. I completely forgot that we're an Interstate Battery dealer in our service department here @ my work so I got it for substantially less than retail.

dont mean to sidetrack,

But if I install 4.4 battery in my 3.0 will it help my situation in regards to amp drawing alot of power and dimming my lights on base notes. I know a capacitor will help and I just ordered one, but will this also help?

I think it may help. I've noticed that most of the aftermarket batteries recommended for vehicles draw a lot of power directly from the battery call for a battery with a high CCA rating. The stock battery for the 3.0 is rated somewhere around 750 CCA. The larger batteries for the 4.4 are in the 850 range.
