Rear light removal for Euro Clear lights?

Anybody know how to replace the rear tail lights on their X5? I just got a set of Euro clear lights and am at a loss as to how to get my old lights off and the new ones on.

Anybody done this themselves? I'd hate to have to have the dealer charge me $100+ bucks for something I could do myself.

Rob

Tell me if you guys have th new version of the clear tail lights. If it is the old version just screw every screws out and replace. If it is the newer version (04+) I can help. Just let me know.

I have an 03 so it is probably the older version. I assume it is simple as unscrewing all the bolts I see as you suggest. Getting to them will be the problem/battle.

Unscrew the three bolts, take out old tail light, add new tail light, and screw in the three bolts. Assuming the tail lights you bought are OEM or have an OEM wiring harness.

If not then you may half to do some cutting and splicing to add the non oem tail lights. I do not suggest this route.

Good luck,
Austin

hey mdrobc13, i myself did the same mod as yours and I also have an '03 3.0. All you have to do is open up the panel at the trunk, one on the left and then other on the right.

On the driver side, it will be a struggle especially if you have a chaner, dvd, etc on that side. I only have a cd changer and I have to take the changer out in order for me to reach the 3 screws. After taking the changer out, screws are each reach. Pop it out and place the new ones in.

Passenger side is easy since I don't have a subwoofer on that side. Easy access, same thing, take (3) screws out and pop new tail light in.

The reason I switched mine is that I used WHITE LEDs for the turn signal. I have been trying to take a pic of it but don't know how to keep the white LED on since its a blinker and take a pic at the same time.

GOOD LUCK! Let me know if you run into any problems.

I just replaced mine and had my friend put them in because the dealer wanted $160.00 for labor. I watched him do it and it looked super easy and took about thirty min. Just open the panels on both sides take out the lights and put the new ones in. There are about three bolts to undo and that's it.

Thankx all. Just did mine today along with a nice wash and wax job. Was super easy...don't know what the dealer above was smokin ($160.00?? did that include a warm blanket and chocolates afterwards?). All were correct...torx wrench small and three bolts and it was off and switched. The driver's side is a bit of a small challenge IF you have a CD and Nav (OEM) as I do but with a small enough torq wrench it's pretty easy. Thankx to all. AE's are going in probably next weekend so pics will be posted soon!
