Exclamation When Do I Sell My X5?

I own a 2001 silver 3.0i X5. 90,000 fresh miles. The car is in great shape and I just put some 132's on and it looks great. (small fixes here and there at this point) I was also thinking of adding the Sport steering wheel.

Question is. Do I sell it because of the high mileage? Or keep getting little upgrades to please myself visually and drive the bad boy into the ground?

I would just get a 2004 if I were to sell it.

Thoughts anyone?

Any and all comments/suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

You own it outright with no car payment? If so that is a very nice thing. To get a loan on an '04 would probable cost in the vicinity of $500 - $600 per month.

I do not think you can get an aftermarket warranty on a vehicle for over 100k miles. (Anyone please feel free to correct me if I am mistaken) The potential for having something break is the only thing that would worry me a lil bit. But that is offset by not having a car payment.

If something major happens to go awry and you have to pay $1,000 or $1,500 to get it fixed it still makes sense to keep the vehicle from a financial standpoint.

I would put a few bucks into it in upgrades and keep up the maintenence. Wait until there is either a body style change or you are flat out ready to get a new vehicle!!! Just my 0.02!

if you like the 04-06 x and want to throw in the extra bucks I'd say go for it, nothing can go wrong. you can even pick out one that already has the sport steering wheel.

everyday i ask myself that same question and i think it will be a different answer for everyone. last year alone i put 35 THOUSAND MILES on my X.
who knows what it will be this year...

some days i want to keep it and "run into the ground" but i dont know if i will be able to afford that once my warranties expire.

i have done lil mods here and there since i purchased it last year. and everyday i am liking him more and more.

but i haven't had major issues either...

good luck on whatever you decide!

Keep It Or Sell It.

Let me just add to my initial posting.

I pay $399 a month on the car.
It's out of Warranty of course.

Not real interested in paying much more. Seems ridiculous to me.

I have to replace the thermostat at this point, about $175.
Just did the front CV boots and the rear window mechanism.

Hopefully thats it for now.

Oh, will need a re-alignment soon. I go to CARMA in Atlanta for all of my work. So I don't pay dealer prices.

I've always kept the cars I liked for a long time, which is why I own BMW's. Financially, I come out ahead no matter what the out of warranty costs are. I'm planning to keep my present X5 until a hybrid version comes out. Hopefully in another 5 years. My record is a 1985 535i that had 240K miles. Either way, it's your choice.

I picked up an '04 after the lease on my '01 ran out... hindsight being 20/20 I should have kept the '01. I liked the styling better, and the big difference was no HID/Xenon lights on the '01 to worry about being stolen.

Wow Tomaz. You really put some perspective on the issue. Thank you. 240k miles is what I like to hear! I really didn't know how far I could go.

Always difficult to know the limitations. Most Bimmer users bail before the Warranty passes, then it's hard to find someone that's ever stayed in for the long haul. You MAY be considered a maverick — along with being smart with the finances. Good man.
