My '03 3.0i is doing this too. It seems like the popular things to replace/check are vac leaks, fuel filter, fuel pump, ignition coils and mass air flow sensor. I'll be troubleshooting this one on my own. The fixes seem to be easy to try, but unfortunately, the problem is intermittent.

Take a contract out on her, that way you can have the X5 and the boys.
All your problems gone in one hit.

personally, i think you should "still" care especially if she has your children...but that's just me.
anyway, my car is at the dealer right now bc of that issue (and among others). i will let you know what they tell me if i EVER get a call from them! this has happend to my X three times in the 14months i've owned it. it seems (for me anyway) to happen during summer months when the AC is running. that and making a sharp turn is the only coincidence i've been able to find. also, it started back up right away. did it start up for your Xwife soon after too?

According to the links below, the fix is a software update. It seems as though the confusion surrounding a mechanical culprit may actually be a result of the dealer wanting more money to fix the problem. The software updates don't bring in the money like replacing parts, so they replace some random part (crank sensor, fuel filter, fuel pump, etc) and while the car is there, they update the engine management software (which is the actual fix). On the invoice, it looks like the solution was the part, but all that was needed was the software flash.
It seems that the problem manifests itself most often when the A/C is on and the car is turned sharply. These two events put a load on the engine, dropping the RPM to the point the car dies. By updating the DME software to compensate for the load when A/C is on with a slightly higher RPM, the problem is solved. This may not be a solution for all X5s experiencing stalls, but it appears to be for the majority. I'll be calling the local shop for an update today. http://www.bimmer.org/x5/messages/ar...w26/45888.html http://www.bimmer.org/x5/messages/ar...1w18/37523.htm FYI- I was told that there was an update a recent as January of this year. |
