It's not a fair comparison as you are trying to compare a compressed file vs uncompressed. Typically, 192kbps is close to CD quality.

Behind the access panel there are a bunch of wires but none are loose.
Do I need to open the bottom black part which is to the left of the spare tire and to the right of the access panel?
Do you have a picture? It will help me finding the 3/6 connectors

I currently own an '01 X5 with DSP and NAV. I tried the FM transmitter and it sounded horrible so I decided to try the tape deck adapter and it sounds just as good as the CD even at louder volumes.

Is this unit even available for the '01? I have heard that there is no available iPod hookup for the '01. I think it was only available for '03 and newer.

I can live with the tape adapter because it really does sound great but hate the long cord hanging out of the middle of my dash.

The DIce adaptor works for early DSP if yopu look at an earlier post of mine you will see I have used the Dice DSP adaptor to connect up an Alpine CD unit. I did this as there was no other way to connect to the Co-axial (early ) DSP for aftermarket CD players.

Dice do a full ipod integration kit for the ipod which includes this unit.

Since my last post I have purchased an '05 4.4i that has NAV but no CD changer. On the NAV screen under menu it does list DSP so I am assuming that I have DSP. I am looking to get the DICE setup instead of a CD changer. Am I understanding it correctly that I will need the DSP adapter with this and also if I want to add a CD Changer later can I do this too? I can't foresee me adding a CD Changer because if I can control my iPod from the steering wheel or NAV screen I don't really see the need for a CD Changer. Also, is this system as easy to use as they make it seem.

Thanks in advance for your help. I just want to make sure that I am doing this the right way.

You won't ned the DSP adaptor that is only required for the earlier Co-axail lead DSP units.

As for adding a CD changer also It may be possible but you will probably have to look at installing one as an aux input.
