any differences b/w 2002 2003 4.6is

I'm about to purchase and have the choice of a 2002 for cheaper (of course) or a 2003 for a few K more - both have approx. same mileage and options - what would YOU do?

There's not a whole lot of differences between the two. My decision on this would be based on which interior/exterior color combo I liked better (assuming they are different), the price, the mileage, overall condition, any discernable differences in how they were treated by their prior owners, and the service history (from BMW).

If you are into audio, the 2003 will give you the ability to install the AUX input kit. To do this in the 2002 you would need to update the radio module to a 2003 or newer.

thx for the quick feedback. They're both Estoril Blue, Black Napa interior. Both have aluminum running boards, but the 2002 has electric rears and the extended cargo floor. Both have 45K on them, the 2002 is $5K cheaper....

I'd probably go for the 2002 and use the $5K to start modding . But keep in mind that the 2003 will always have a slightly higher resale value than the 2002. So when you go to sell, if you did buy the 2003 then you would recoup at least some of the $5K difference at that time.

The cargo area isn't that big, so having the cargo floor isn't a necessity. I look at it as more of a trade off between the convenience factor versus some cargo space you lose by having it. Just a matter of preference.

thanks again. I guess the only other difference is that the 2003 is two provinces away (Canada) - so I'd have to pay 500-700$ for the shipping. They're asking 69K CAD for the 2003 and I may have trouble getting them to move much on it - think 63 is a fair offer?

$63K CAD is probably at the high end of what I would offer. There are 7 right now on eBay that are at or below that right now - http://search.ebay.com/4-6is_Passeng...Q2e6isQQsojsZ1

Not that I'm advocating buying one off eBay, but I'd use that as a barometer for pricing.

thx. I'm wondering if one of the issues on lower CAD prices is the lack of competition - that is, so many more ppl in the US vs Caanda therefore they drive the prices lower - whereas there's less demand in CAD so higher prices...

i just got a 03 x5 4.6 est. blue , nappa, nav/dap/audiopphile, rear thorax air, rear sunshades etc..beautiful..21k production 09/03...certified nwarranty till sept30/09 from bmw they were askin 69900, i got it for 64700 w/1.9%financ. i love it...2003 also has analong dsp, so it save little $ and hassel if u put dension ice-link in. i would go w/2003,more warranty,, better resale value..where r located, is it certified from bmw...EBAy prices dont mean anything, as those for the most part are not bmw certified, and you cannot see in person easily (depending)..even then cars are about 10k difference in gerneral and that price i find in the us..but too much hassle and sight inseen to buy isnt my choice.

good luck i love mine..but got a ticket within 24hrs. and gas is brutal 114$cdn per l. here for premium..insurance was 1900$ for the year....

I ended up buying the 02. Is was/is immaculate. also est. blue with nappa black nav/dvd/audophile, no rear thorax air but does have the rear sunshades. Also has eletric rears and cargo load - which the 03 didn't. Warranty until 08/08 or 120, they were originally asking 69900, dropped it to 65900, and I got it for 59900. It's got brand new rubber and looks beautiful. Wife is very happy. Payments are 720 a month, easy to handle. Can't wait to take del of it. Sorry to hear about ticket - that's terrible. Our insruance is 700 a year, but we're have several vehicles/houses with the same company so many discounts.
