Maintenance Program: Current prices?
When I bought the car as a CPO with 14,000 on it (from Ramsey, NJ) they gave me a price of $1200 for the extended maintenance. I have since moved to California and I have been taking the car to Center BMW in Van Nuys. The car was in the dealer about 6 months ago and they gave me a price of $1500 on the extended maintenance. I brought the car in yesterday and they gave me a price of $2000. Ouch! At that price it is bordering on not worth it. Is is possible that the price has escalated like that? I did some reasearch on this site for pricing but the only "offical" pricing guide I could find was from 2004. My question(s): What is the current right price for this program? Also, do I need to present the car at the dealer to get the maintenance program or can I call around state to state and do it over the phone? Anyone have a dealer suggestion? I know this topic has been gone over repeatedly but I just wanted to see what the latest information is. Thanks in advance. Matt |

Maintenance plan price was increased last month. Here is some info. http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...ht=maintenance The dealership has quite a markup on this so shop around and you can do a LOT better than 2G's. One example is BMW Mini of South Atlanta, GA (TwinKidneyGrill) - they seem to consistently have the lowest price for extended maintenance. Here is their website and they are quoting $1,345 for the 2yr extended maintenance for the X5. http://www.twinkidneygrill.com/page/page/4264307.htm Some dealers will tell you that they need the vehicle to be present. You do not need to send the folks at TwinKidneyGrill your key - just VIN and mileage. Good luck |

Thanks for the reply Boston!
I checked the links you sent. $1345 is for the X3 extended maintenance. It is $1645 for the X5. It looks like it went up $400 (about 25%) a month and a half ago. Bimmer, er, I mean bummer... Matt |

matt is is even worth doin ??
you have a cpo vehicle don't you ?? my full maintenence ended in april and the dealer told me its not really worth it btw at that time he quoted me $1550.00 he also mentioned that the main benefit of this is the brakes !! i just had them done from an independent shop for my wifes 3.0 for $300.00 otherwise all it is really gonna be good for is wipers, bulbs, oil changes, etc not really worth it imo..

Photto ...
we'll as far as having the vehicle present... take it for what it's worth... Any service with BMW's now are all done with a "key-reader", your key is put into a blue machine/holder to record the mileage, vin info etc. at time of service.. BMW requires dealers to have this documentation when a customer purchases these warranties.. it's just like a regular service , especially if it's warranty, dealers need the vehicle so they can do "Key readers"... (keeps everybody honest-owner/dealer) so bear that in mind .. it should'nt be a problem.. and like boston states... careful of the markup" on these ... warranties.. 2K is WAY to high keep us posted... Whether getting the extended maintenance is worth it or not is the $1645 question. I need to take a pencil to it and add up what it would most likely be used to cover in the next 63K miles. My guess is that it is a couple of hundred dollars away from a wash. At that point it may be worth it for the peace of mind. I like the idea of being able to take it to a dealer with all their new-fangled, fancy-pants testing gizmos. Or and I just buying into the hype?!?

Failing that, and if you like the idea of going to the dealership, then you are doing the right thing by putting pen to paper and seeing what will most likely be needed over the two years. The biggest ticket item is whether or not you will need a full brake job - the other maintenance items are relatively incidental.. FWIW, here are rough prices from this year for Boston area - full front and rear brake job (rotors, pads and sensors) ~$1,350 - Annual oil and filter change ~$125 x 2 - Inspection I or II $600-800 - belts $? So if you need a full brake job, one inspection and 2 oil changes over the 2 years you will be up to $2200-2400, if not............. Good luck Last edited by Boston X5 4.4; 08-02-2007 at 02:22 PM. |

Great analysis Boston! Thanks for taking the time.
Since the price of the maintenance program just went up and I have 13K to go 'til the orginal program expires I have a little time to think about it. Right now I have other things on my mind. My wife just took a job in San Francisco so we are going to me packing up again after being in LA for a year and a half. I am what is known in the corporate world as a "trailing spouse". Funny. Can't wait for my new dealer experience ![]() Thanks again. Matt |
