Sports Package

For $1600, you get Seats, Steering Wheel, Shadowline Trim, Lighter Colored Intake Inserts, Wheels, and "Sports Tuned Suspension". I think that includes heavier sway bars and spings- maybe shocks too.

On my 540, the car is also lower by an inch. I don't know about the X5, but I would doubt it because of the desire to maintain off-road clearance.

Until BMW did the facelift in 2004, the sport wheels you got on the 4.4i were 19's. Now you get 18's and BMW charges $950 extra for the 19's. I stayed with the 18's because the tires are cheaper and the ride is not quite as harsh. I like the look of the 19's though.

The sports package aeshetic elements are what cause me to go with it. I could have lived with the standard suspension for the type of driving I'm doing with the X5.

My guess is struts, rear sway and springs....
Thanks! This was the best data I have seen on this post which seems to have gotten a little out of hand
Will be going for a 4.4i sport, nav etc soon. 05 or 06?
Drove the T-reg, Tribecca, XC-90, MDX, new MB with no comparision in handeling. They were poor. X-5 put a smile on my face
Would drive a pepper if I could stand to look at it, not

Have you driven an LR3 or a Lexus GX? It sounds like you're a drivers driver though. Im was just looking for an opinion from a non driver like myself. The X I believe is ANYONEs "content mobile"..

I have not driven them mainly because I do not like there styling etc.
I have not heard great thing about there handeling which is my number one factor in going X5, number 2 is saftey, number 3 is style/build quality.

You are welcome.

Let me make a suggestion on your purchase.

If you want an X5, take advantage of the current lease special or by a used '04 (or '05 if you have to have Bluetooth). The current lease is smokin' because in Fall of '06 the new X5 will arrive. If you don't want to lease and you want it now, definitely by an '04 with say <15k miles. You'll save $10k-$20k on an X5 thats still in warranty and just broken in.

And if you are going to spend $40k-$50 on a used X5, I would also recommend you look hard at an '04 LX470. I just sold my wife's '03 after 2 years and I'll tell you, it's the single best vehicle on the planet. Nav blows BMW away, more room, seats 7, standard stereo rocks, true go anywhere capability with a ride that equals any luxury sedan.... You just have to be looking for a drive by wire feel- not the BMW feel. And I would definitely buy a used LX470 over the GX new.

Good Luck
