What is different in the suspension of a sport package?

Are they different shocks, springs, sway bars?
Anyone know the specs? Seems like the wheels and tires are bigger.
Is it possible to make the suspension changes in a non-sport package X5?

Thanks All

From looking at pictures the sport susp. looks lower so I assume different springs at the very least.

With the 2000 and 2001, the Sport Package came standard with the rear air suspension. I believe that starting in 2002 the rear air suspension became an option on the 3.0i

The wheels and tires are nothing, you can get them from the dealer.

IIRC the biggest issue is a rollbar suspension wise. (Does that count? Or is that another category?)

Also the interior is slightly different with another steering wheel.

That is all I remember, personally we didn't get it because I hate the three spoke steering wheel, however I wish I had gotten it because the handling of this X5 sucks nuts.

I know all the spec for the inside and outside trim stuff but details of what they have done to the suspension are vague. Sport tuned? OK what does that mean

I'm sorry...?? Are you saying that the handling of the X5 sucks? If that's the case, I think I can safely say that your opinion is certainly in the minority.

To each his own, obviously, but, I've always thought the X5 handles marveously! It's certainly better than *any* SUV/SAV and probably better than 90% of all vehicles on the road.

Juan

camber plates and a strut bar would probably improve your opinion of the X5 handling - but rather than spend your own money (hand me down) , you will most likely trade this in for something you consider worthy of your ownership - everyone here thinks you have a cool vehicle - but if you are not happy with it, you are free to find something else and that's cool - Good Luck!

I'm not sure what the exact differences are in the suspension specs between the SP and non-SP equipped 4.4's... but my guess would be that the springs are stiffer, and the anti-sway bars are thicker. That may be it - which means that it would not be a huge problem to achieve similar results after-market. But if you're a spirited driver, you'll definitely appreciate upgraded suspension one way or the other. (As for the wheels/tires, SP comes with different 18" wheels/tires, but they're still 18x8.5 / 255-55 17's - so not a big diff there... )
However, the SP also gives you some enhancements that are more difficult to get after market... namely, the FANTASTIC sport seats and steering wheel, as well as the sharp body/trim accents (titanium-colored grill inserts, etc.) Well worth the price of admission, if you ask me... I think you'll regret it if don't get the SP.

Whenever you are content with your car, that is when you have lost

I think the x5 understeers like a pig and is too front heavy. However, a quick tap on the brake works wonders, but I don't like shedding speed like that.
Of course I'm going to be in the minority, I doubt I'd find very many others who drive the X5 like I do

I'm looking for some decent camber plates to run me -3degrees in the rear or so. Dinan doesn't do that much. The strut bar is next in the mod list when I get a job.

I don't think there is a car worthy of my ownership, they all have their faults, and if there was a perfect car, that means my standards are too low

Come on guys, don't take it offensively, I'm just one of those guys that always strives to be better.
