Did the line crack or did the line uncouple? Usually they'll start leaking, but they won't blow. At least not in the Bimmers that I've owned.

this happened like 6mins before(the turn that is) i pulled into my neighborhood/driveway; as soon as i pulled into my driveway i noticed my PS was out.. so it had time to give out kind of quickly a.k.a leaking real quick

So i dunno what excactly happened, and it seems like its leaking on both sides, the driver side more then the passenger thats for sure.

I haven't heard of a line snapping because of a turn unless it was severely dry-rotted.

Check the actual line condition and see if there was cracking through out the line. I'd also be wondering about the power steering pump and if it was adding insane pressure to the system to blow it out like that.

The high pressure power steering line on my early 4.4 is a known weak point. Once the line is replaced your system should be good again. Glad you made it through the turn OK.

So the BMW dealership calls me today to ask me some general questions about how and when the power steering leak/failure happened.

And one thing the lady ended up askin me was "has it happened before when you put the aftermarket wheels on?"

Im deff not tryin to get screwed out of a warranty fix for this problem, because i have aftermarket wheels; and since i didnt put my stocks back on.

How can i argue just in case they dont want to fix this through warranty.

As far as i understand, isnt there also some law/code that basically says they have to prove that the damaged was caused by the aftermarket part.

suggestions please???

However, if they can prove that it is possible that the wheels were the cause of the problem, and this issue is uncommon (exploding steering lines), then you're up a creek.

What year is your x5? Take a pic of the line and post it up. If it is the kind with the metal links holding the rubber lines together, then it is their line's fault. The role of the wheels is speculation.

The metal crimped couplers on the rubber line is a crap design - the rubber contracts over time and the line starts leaking. Mine did that at 74k miles with stock everything. My friend that worked as a BMW tech said this was not uncommon.

If it is the high pressure line I am thinking about, this can easily be the case. And you would not have to do anything bizzare to have the line give out on you like that either. It is a high pressure line, and turning ups the pressure on the system.

I had to replace my high pressure line and it cost just over $200 for the part.
