Most likely leaky valves in the service ports. Have a pressure/leak test done at any local AC service place.

Pressure test was performed and the pressure is fine. Does anyone know of a relay or something electrical that could cause this. The fuses are fine.

Do a search on "final stage resistor" ... it is the cheapest and easiest part to replace in your AC system, and is a very common point of failure. You problem could be as simple as a bad FSR, but it usually manifests itself as eratic AC fan behavior more than a stable fan with hot air temps. I hope you don't have to get into the service ports or compressor. Good luck.

Hot air suggests that the electric fan in front of the engine may not be working. Worth a check. Service ports are OK if there is good pressure and a 20 minute replacement for the actual ports. Any AC shop will be able to do that as long as you have the OEM replacement parts. (About $22 from dealer.) If they needed replacement the biggest part is evacuating and recharging the system properly but, again, any AC shop have the equipment to do that and at a better rate than the dealer will charge.

Thanks for the info. I checked voltage to the aux fan and it is good. So I guess the fan is bad. Do you all have any suggestions on where to buy the cheapest. I am getting ready to trade this one in.

With the AC on look under the hood, make sure the compressor is engaging. There is an electric clutch which cycles the compressor on and off. The compressor clutch may be blown or the wiring to it may have an open circuit.

First check the fan relay. It's much cheaper than the fan. The fans run around $300 on most internet auto stores. I would check the fan by running battery voltage direct to it ands see if it turns on.

Is the relay located behind the fan assembly or is it the one on the top side of the radiator? I am getting power to the plug that runs to the fan assembly but i did not follow it all the way down to the fan motor itself. The clutch is not engaging but that may be because the sensors are communicating that the fan is not turning and keeping the clutch from engaging as a safty measure. 2001 X5's had a bad issue with the fan burning up that led to this from my reading.
