X5 holds good value?

I am in the market for a 2004 - 2006 X5 4.4i and I am amazed at what they aregoing for? This seems to be the BMW that holds the best value? I cannot find one for less than 35-40K, I want it to be less than 40K miles as I need the factory warranty. Any suggestions or comments? I have owned several non-X series BMW's over the past few years and the value on those, especially 3 series tanked pretty quick. Whats goin on?

$35k for a 3 1/2 year old X5 4.4 that stickered ~ $58k with a few nice options and still under factory warranty is not that good resale value..

I browse used 3-series periodically and the residuals are not that far worse or better...

What would be a good price? When I complained to my dealing about my 04 4.4i sport being valued at $34K, he told that they had a 3.0 with fewer options and about the same miles - 36K - and their wholesale was over $33K and advertised selling price was over $37K.
Was he just blowing smoke? Is it my region - Oklahoma?

Wholesale of $33k for a 04 X5 3.0 w/ 36k miles?? hahahaha, yeah right... check out roadfly.org finance & leasing forum under general automotive.. There's a fella who works at an auto auction and gets the wholesale prices on used cars and posts them... An 04 3.0 will go for closer from low to mid $20k's wholesale..

Why do you have to buy it from a dealer, look for a private sale. There are tons. Also, look for cars with CPO's on them that way you have a 6yr/100K warranty

If you want a CPO car, you HAVE to buy it from the dealer... only authorized BMW dealers can certify them and resell it... if you want to buy it from a private sale, you can get an extended warranty from an aftermarket warranty co..

Not true, you can buy a CPO X5 from someone who originally bought the CPO car from a BMW dealer, the CPO warranty is fully transferable with no fee. I have owned a few CPO BMW's over the years and the CPO warranty is not that hot. It has a $50 deductable per visit and does not over stuff that tends to break, like weatherstripping, certain suspension components, radio, NAV etc etc. I would rather spend a little more and get one with a BMW factory warranty. Just my $0.02

CPO follows the car not the owner

Yes, I forgot to mention the a CPO'd car warranty is transferrable...

I think the CPO is great, mine already paid for itself 3x over.. they offer free roadside assistance, and coverage includes loaner or free rental provided if your car is at the dealer under warranty repair...

I already had my car towed to the dealer once because of bad engine wire harness... All I paid was the $50 deductible and that included free rental / towing / and repair.. That's pretty damn good IMO..
