Question Newbie with '05 X5 3.0i issues...Help

I'm a newbie and just recently picked up a '05 X5 3.0i w/premium package. The car is preowned with only 24K on it. Meanwhile, I recently noticed a few things that have got me concerned and will be bringing into the dealer on Monday. But I'm hoping that others here may have experience the same issues and provide some insight what they may be.

1. At low speeds I hear a intermitant bump/grind that I believe is coming from the right rear area. It almost sounds as if something is knocking into the wheel well.

2. Both the front and console power outlets are not generating and juice.

3. When I make a hard right hand turn I hear a clunk.

4. In auto mode, should the Xenons be staying on in the morning...When I leave, the sun is up. Can any one tell me how the auto mode works?
- time of day
- direction of sun light

Other items I intend on having them look at are as follows:
5. Some times I get a funky smell from the heater
6. Re-adjust the auto door locking mechanism not to lock. Is this possible?
7. Right now I have 17"s, but come summer I'm going to want to upgrade to 20". Does my X5 support staggered wheels? Any recommendations on size?

Meanwhile, are there any other little, or big, idiosyncrasies of the X5 3.0i and/or 2005 year model that I should be aware of.

Or if you you've had similiar issues, how did you resolve them?

BTW...This forum is fantastic! Thanks.

Yeah, your car can fit 20's. My dad has an '06 3.0i with 20's. Just a bit slower.

20"s

What do you mean by slower? Do larger rims have an impact on speed if the diameter of the overall wheel hasn't changed?

I appreciate the feedback. Any experience with the other issues I listed.

Thanks,
B

for #6, when you bring ur X to the dealer, you can ask them to reprogram it... just wondering why u dont like that feature?

since ur X is under warranty, mention all those stuff and they would surely look into it... it just sometimes, its very hard to replicate the problem once ur on the dealers lot...

Actually, I'm okay with it. The wife hates the double pull.

I believe i have the same issue with the outlets producing juice. I tried to charge my phone via the outlet on the front (ashtray) as well as the back (rear seat) but no luck too. Is this normal?

All cigarette lighter outlets are suppose to provide power all the time whether the car is on or not. Check the fuse if it isn't working properly.

The larger wheels/tires weight more...so taking off will take a bigger toll on your 3.0i than it would on a 4.4i or a 3.0d.

Bryans,
#1, #2, #3, #5 - Doesn't sound normal to me. Let the dealer look at it since it's under warrantee.

#4 - In auto mode, your Xenon is supposed to turn on ONLY when it's dark. The Xenon will shut off as soon as it detects decent ambient light. If you want daytime running light, the dealer will have to program your car to do so, but it will only light the inner halogens (your dealer may charge you a service fee).

#6 - It's possible to reprogram your locks to not automatically lock (it's programmed to a specific key), but again, your dealer may charge you for this. My advice to you is have your dealer program only ONE key, this way, you have to option to have auto-lock or NO auto-lock simply by picking the proper key (in case you change your mind later about the feature).

#7 - The X will support any OEM setup from 17"-20" (up to 22s for non-OEM). See my previous reply for caveat for going to 20s and beyond. Although, I went from 17s to staggered 19s without noticing too much power loss, but the gain on stability and cornering abilities was very much worth the trade off, not to mention the looks that come with the bigger paws.

That would make sense..The weight of wheels putting more of a toll to get them to spin-up, more so than simply the weight. Thanks
