"CHECK ENGINE OIL LEV"

Last week after getting home from work I parked my car and turned off the igniton and the OBC gave "check engine oil lev." message. I ignored the message at the first time. Now after a week it happened for the second time. When I turned off the ignition OBC gave the same message. I checked the oil level and everything seems OK.

Has anyone experienced this problem.

Thanks.

You may have a bad sensor. I'd have the dealer check it out (they should be able to pull the error messages from the vehicle's computer memory to verify that the CHECK OIL LEVEL" light did come on several times) and determine the cause. That's one sensor that I would not want to have problems with.

I had the very same problem with my x5 4.4i. The message used to come every so often (at least once or twice a week) and everytime I checked the level it was ok. I finaly brought it to the dealer who changed the oil sensor. That did not fix the problem and the message kept appearing from time to time. I brought the car back again since it is still under garranty. This time they said they removed a little bit of oil because it was a little too high. I have been driving the car since for 5 weeks with no problem.
