mark3 is cd based, there is a new one, mk4, which is DVD based. The screen i would suggest get a widescreen 16:9 ratio. Also, you will need the radio tuner and also the nav harness. Will run you perhaps $700 or so just for this 2 items. DIY is in the home page, it's pretty easy, i have done the retrofit on a number of 3 series vehicles. Plus, OEM could be more, but it looks better on your dash compared to aftermarket ones, of ocurse, its just my opinion. Thanks!

so does that mean all mark 1,2,3 are all the same, then you move into the mark 4,i have also noticed that when i am seeing mark 3 nav drive for sale they have different part nos on them,do they all fit meaning out of different cars ie e46 ,e53 1 last thing does all of the screens fit again meaning e46,e53these have different part nos as well.

Mark 1-3 are CD based, they have different numbers due to different production dates and of course, euro and US. But of course, MK3 is better than Mk1 and should fit most BMW cars. As far as the screen goes, they come in 2 sizes, the 4:3 and the 16:9. E46 has its own screen size, exclusviely for 3 series vehicles only. Older 5 series and X5 shares the same size of screen. Like the nav computers, they have different production dates.
