OMFG! Locked Out - have Key, need help. Please.

I'm locked out of my X5 right now because a) the drivers door handle basically broke today (not the actual handle but the internal mechanism doesn't seem to do anything when I pull the handle) so all day I have had to go in through passenger door and pull open the drivers door from the inside. That was fine but when I got home tonight I got out of the car with the keys in the ignition (force of habit) so right now the drivers door is unlocked but wont open due to the handle problem and the remote on my spare key doesn't do anything - I suppose because the other key is in the ignition? Not sure about that.

To top it all off, mine has factory keyhole covers on both sides.

Any help would be appreciated. I would even break a keyhole cover if someone knows for sure whether or not I will even have a keyhole in behind it on the passenger side where the handle still works.

This is unbelievable to me. Its in my garage now too so no way to tow it without dragging it out in Park. Plus the dealer here is clueless on how to get in without breaking a window.

TIA, will try anything.

You're right, the spare key won't work with one in the ignition. Is it possible to slip a long wire in fron the passenger side door and pull the key out of the ignition? Good luck

I've never been less proud to have the only Bimmer in the neighbourhood.

Ask the tow truck people. They seem to break into cars all the time to put the parking brake down.

If the front door is unlocked shouldn't you be able to open the hatch?

if you have a second key why don't you try to keep the unlock button down for a few seconds. usually that pulls down all windows. it might work. I would try on my car to see if it works but my car is a few blocks away

Thanks guys. I managed to find a guy that specializes somewhat in breaking into high end cars and he did so with almost no sign he touched it.

So now the trick is not to do it again since the dealer can't get me in before Dec 20 to fix the handle though I'm going to lean on them pretty hard and it sounds like they are going to try to get me in before that. If not I'll have someone else do it and just pay for the repair.

You make him sound a little dodgy but good to hear that he got in...

I should have stated that better. He did an excellent job and took only a couple minutes to do so.

Oh, yeah I didn't even notice that. Its funny how one's perspective on such things changes when suddenly I want my car to be easy to break into. The first couple guys I called wanted nothing to do with this car by-the-way, they are all scared of the air bags I suspect.

I'm surprised no one questioned me on the 4 week lead time to get into the dealer.
